Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

Complex view rules in Rational Focal Point are not supported when Derby is used as the database.

Cause

Derby database has limitations in executing SQL queries that has multiple subqueries. When you create a view rule with complex conditions, the resulting SQL query might not work as intended if Derby database is used.

Environment

Rational Focal Point with Derby as the database.

Diagnosing the problem

Follow the steps to diagnose the problem:

  1. Create a view rule with multiple conditions.
  2. Select the view from the Display menu to view the result. The infinite progress wheel indicates that the database is not able to process the view rule.
  3. Click Configure > View to edit the view rule.

Resolving the problem

Avoid defining complex view rules in Rational Focal Point when Derby is the database. Verify the view rule to make sure that the view rule is working as desired. Edit the view rule definition, if the infinite progress wheel is displayed.
