CTC v4 fails to install wp.ctc component on a Windows system

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem

CTC v4 fails to install wp.ctc component on a Windows system

Symptom

During the running of the ctc-install.bat file, the console notes that the Site Builder application finishes deploying and installing but fails during the start of the wp.ctc deployment.

Cause

This issue occurs when setting the PROFILE_DIR property in the ctc.properties file. If there is a space in the name of the folder (ie. Program Files) then the install will fail very quickly in the process. If there are quotes around the file path, then it fails at the start of the wp.ctc component as the script is not able to handle the quotes.

Environment

Windows

Portal 8.0.0.1
CTC v4

Diagnosing the problem

Reviewing the script it fails during the check to see if %CTC_PATH% exists. The wp.ctc file exists, but the path will have quotes in the CTC_PATH parameter thus the path is not resolvable.

Resolving the problem

To resolve the issue, you must determine the short name for the folder that has a space in your path.

You can do this by navigating to the parent folder and run dir /X.

The shortname should look something like this: PROGRA~2

Once you have the short name, you will need to update the path in the PROFILE_DIR parameter.
