How do I keep a pair of responses together in an otherwise randomized category list?

Technote (FAQ)

Question

How do I keep a pair of responses together in an otherwise randomized category list? In other words, I want to make sure two categories stick together, even though they may be randomized in relation to the rest of the list.

Answer

This can be done by use of a sublist. In this example, the items B and C are kept together when randomizing because they are in a sublist.

list1 "" define
{
B "B",
C "C"
};

q1 "test question"
categorical [1..1]
{
X "X",
Y "Y",
use list1 sublist,
Z "Z",
Q "Q",
P "P"
} ran;
