The IBM InfoSphere Streams Information Center states that IBM InfoSphere Streams can be installed on a single host or on a cluster of homogeneously configured networked hosts. What is the recommended IBM InfoSphere Streams deployment option for IBM Intelligent Transit Analytics?
When you deploy IBM Intelligent Transit Analytics, it is recommended that the prerequisite IBM InfoSphere Streams product is deployed on a single host. IBM Intelligent Transit Analytics was developed and quality tested on a single host IBM InfoSphere Streams environment.

Which user account is required to install IBM InfoSphere Streams?
You can install IBM InfoSphere Streams as a root user or a non-root user, however, the default installation location of the installed Streams files depends on your authority during the installation.
When you install the IBM InfoSphere Streams product for use with IBM Intelligent Transit Analytics, use the root user account. If you choose to install IBM InfoSphere Streams as a user that does not have root authority, the program installation files are installed into your home directory by default, which can result in deployment issues.

Which user account is required to be set as the default streams user?
Before you start the installation, ensure that a suitable non-root user account exists which can be used to take ownership of the installed files. This can be any non-root user but the IBM InfoSphere Streams Information Center recommends streamsadmin (with a default group of streamsadmin).
Which user account and permissions are required for the /opt/IBM directory?
After you install IBM InfoSphere Streams, the installation instructions explain that you must create a directory that is called /opt/IBM . Ensure that the IBM InfoSphere Streams user has read, write, and execute permission to the /opt/IBM directory. You can do this by changing the group ownership of the /opt/IBM directory to the IBM InfoSphere Streams user that you created earlier, for example streamsadmin. To complete this task, run the following commands as the root user:
mkdir -p /opt/IBM
chmod 755 /opt/IBM
chgrp streamsadmin /opt/IBM
