Question & Answer
Question
How best to create an ITCAM agent for SAP situation to alert on SAP system down which subsequently resets when the system is back up again?
Cause
The SAP system down situation is a pure event situation as opposed to a sampled situation. Therefore the event does not reset when the SAP system is back up again and has to be manually acknowledged and reset.
Answer
The SAP System Down situation should include an "Until" clause to close the event when another situation "System Up" is true.
Following example demonstrates how such a situation can be authored.
Steps to close "R3_Alert_System_Down" situation automatically by using another situation "R3_Alert_System_Up"
1. Select "Situation Editor" option from TEP window
2. Select "R/3_Alert_System_Down" situation which is under "mySAP" node and go to "Until" clause of this situation.
3. Select "Another Situation is TRUE" option and select "R3_Alert_System_Up" situation from the drop down list.
The "R3_Alert_System_Down" situation will get closed automatically as soon as the "R3_Alert_System_Up" situation becomes true.
