Extended Decimal Support in the Complex Flat File stage

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

How to enable extended decimal support in the Complex Flat File (CFF) stage when there is no Mainframe License?

Symptom

Technote http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21567638 advises that to enable extended decimal support beyond length of 18 is to enable "Support Extended Decimal" in the MainFrame Tab. But if customers do not have DataStage for MainFrame licensed, the MainFrame Tab will be greyed out.

Cause

DataStage for MainFrame is not licensed and the MainFrame tab in Project Properties of DataStage Administrator is greyed out.

Resolving the problem

Workaround the issue by:-

First define a table definition with decimal columns with length >= 18.
Do not specify Mainframe platform and Mainframe access type.
Save the table definition and load it in the a CFF Stage.
This will bypass CFF Stage validation.

If there is a COBOL copy book that is imported as table definition just unselect Mainframe access type and Mainframe platform property. This should allow it to be loaded to the CFF Stage with extended decimals.
