WebSphere Process Server (WPS) fails to start and the startServer.log file contains the "Error creating new process. 079:Value too large for defined data type" exception

Technote (troubleshooting)

You attempt to start WebSphere Process Server. However, the product fails to start.

You can see the following error in the startServer.log file:

ADMU3007E: Exception Error creating new
process. 079: Value too large for defined data type.

The Oracle Solaris Java™ Development Kit cannot rotate the native JVM log files.

Resolving the problem

To resolve this issue, you need to reduce the size of the native log file (native_stdout.log). Complete the following steps:

  1. Stop the server.

  2. Rename the native_stdout.log file. For example, rename it native_stdout1.log

  3. Restart the server.
