ITNCM: Viewing changes for a command set

Question & Answer

Question

Can an administrator of an ITNCM system view what changes are done by users for a command set?

Answer

The simple answer is no.

To explain further please review the following details below.

For a native command set, the user creates and saves the configuration changes that are to be completed. After this, they apply the native command set. The job is submitted and waits for approval. The Administrator will then need to log into the system and go to tickets pending approval to check for the submitted job and then navigate to the details tab. From that tab, the administrator clicks the view button and is able to view specifically what the user have edited for the native command set. This makes it easy to approve the task for the administrator:

As you can see above, the commands changed can be seen clearly and the administrator can approve accordingly.

However if you have a command set and go through the same steps as noted above to apply the changes, then viewing the changes by the administrator is not completely clear. Do note this is for command sets and not native. After applying the command set, the job goes into pending approval queue. Again the Administrator goes in and check for the submitted job and then navigates to the details tab again. However the changes made cannot be seen clearly. You can only see the command set's xml listing:

So only within the native command set scenario, does the system allow the administrator to be able to view the changes clearly.

IBM Support have confirmed that this need to be raised as an enhancement request, in order for users/administrators of an ITNCM system to be able to view changes clearly for a command set. It will be reviewed by product management on it viability and if it will be included in a newer release of ITNCM.
