Connecting to the Cognos Mobile web application in a servlet gateway environment

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

Additional web server configuration is needed to access the IBM Cognos Mobile web application when an IBM Cognos servlet gateway is configured.

Symptom

Users are unable to access the Cognos Mobile web application using the standard URL: <server name>/ServletGateway/m

The following error message is displayed:
DPR-ERR-2008 The dispatcher is unable to process the request. The request is directed to an unknown service name: m

Cause

When Cognos servlet gateway is configured, by default, the web server configuration file web.xml does not specify any type of a landing page. As a result, users have to explicitly specify the web pages when navigating the servlet gateway web pages. To access the IBM Cognos Mobile web application the users must enter the following URL: <server name>/ServletGateway/m/index.html

Environment

IBM Cognos BI Server with IBM Cognos Mobile configured for a servlet gateway.

Resolving the problem

  1. In IBM Cognos Configuration, create the EAR file for the servlet gateway.
  2. Deploy the EAR file to your application server.
  3. Go to the \ServletGateway.war\WEB-INF directory and modify the web.xml file generated for the EAR deployment to include a welcome-file-list element:
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>index.html</welcome-file>
    <welcome-file>index.htm</welcome-file>
    <welcome-file>default.html</welcome-file>
    <welcome-file>default.htm</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
  4. Restart the application server.

You should now be able to access the Cognos Mobile web application using the standard URL:
<server name>/ServletGateway/m
