FileNet Image Services: After terminating the fn_setup process, the software will not start.

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

FileNet Image Services software might have problems restarting if the fn_setup process is terminated while the file permissions are being changed.

Cause

While it is running, the fn_setup program changes the file permissions multiple times.

If the System Administrator terminates the fn_setup program between the two messages shown in bold in the following example, the FileNet Image Services software might unable to restart.

Do you want to continue (y/n) [y]:
    fn_setup: Creating file /fnsw/local/setup_config
    fn_setup: Creating file /fnsw/local/sd/root_station
    fn_setup: Creating file /fnsw/local/ssn
    fn_setup: Creating file /fnsw/local/sd/nch_domain
fn_setup: Changing permission on FileNET IS software and databases
    fn_setup: Running "/fnsw/bin/nch_update tusker:FileNet"
    fn_setup: Installing Image Services license.
    Successfully installed license data !
fn_setup: Changing permission on FileNET IS software and databases

Occasionally, a System Administrator might wrongly decide to terminate fn_setup because the process seems like it is not responding or appears to be taking too long to run to completion.

Resolving the problem

To resolve the issue, the fn_setup program must be allowed to run to completion.

The fn_setup program might take a long time to complete for the following reasons:

  1. Additional file systems have been NFS-mounted to the /fnsw or /fnsw/local file systems.
  2. A large number of log files might exist in one of the subdirectories under the /fnsw/local/logs directory. Investigate the number of files that are located in the following directories that in the /fnsw/local/logs directory structure:

      ims_logs

      TM_daemon

      fn_util

      fn_setup

      gdb_logs
