Notes.ini Directory= parameter value does not retain special characters.

Problem

When a Windows profile contains certain special characters the Notes data Multi-user installation notes.ini (Directory=) drops the character in the path for the user's personal data directory.

Symptom

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create a Windows OS profile that has for example the special character Å in it.
  2. Install Notes as a multi-user install
  3. Login to the OS account that you created and open notes.ini.
  4. Notice the special character has been dropped from the users personal data directory location.

Windows 7, XP and Windows 2008.

Diagnosing the problem

Notes.ini parameter example:


Expected:
Directory=C:\Users\Å user\Appdata\Local\Lotus\Notes\Data

Actual:
Directory=C:\Users\user\Appdata\Local\Lotus\Notes\Data

Resolving the problem

Do not use affected special characters in Windows OS profiles.

This issue has been reported in Software Problem Report PMLN95SEYD; and it is currently under investigation for future release.
