The module L1B2P040 abends on IBM Sterling Connect:Express for z/OS version 4.3.0

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

ABEND 0C4 in module L1B2P040 offset 00000908 on IBM Sterling Connect:Express for z/OS version 4.3.0. A timeout occurs in subsystem interface. Install APAR PM83634. to solve the problem.

Cause

The issue comes from subsystem interface when a SSI (Subsystem Interface) request is inserted in monitor Queue and is not taken into account before the time out occurs on client side. When a time out occurs, a detach on local SSI interface will remove the chain from client to cross memory interface and also remove all acquired areas. RCB (CICS ABEND Code) is no longer available when monitor works with this request and an abend occurs. Because time out occurred on client side, this request should be ignored.

Environment

IBM Sterling Connect:Express for z/OS version 4.3.0

Resolving the problem

Install APAR PM83634.

Control on time out is added on server side to control availability of data areas before working with incoming requests in the server queue. The code is fixed to check if the RCB (CICS ABEND Code) area is valid before any other action.
