Question
Can a child diagram inherit the Hierarchical Numbering from a parent diagram in IBM Rational System Architect (SA)?
Cause
You are using Department of Defence Architecture Framework (DoDAF) or Ministry of Defence Architecture Framework (MoDAF) hierarchical diagrams in SA and you wish to have your first node on a child diagram inherit the node number from parent diagram node.
Answer
In SA a child diagram does not inherit the Hierarchical Numbering form a parent diagram. The first node number on the child diagram defaults to 1. The default can be changed as follows:
- Right click on the diagram white space and select "Diagram Properties".
- Ensure "Hierarchical Numbering" is checked.
- Enter your preferred starting number or number format in the "First Node Number" field.
Notes:
- You can have any number of levels in the numbering.
- For example, for the starting number you can use:
- 0 or 1 or 2 or 3 etc.
or - 0.1 or 0.2 or 0.3 etc.
or - 1.0 or 1.1 or 1.2 etc.
- 0 or 1 or 2 or 3 etc.
- You can change the Hierarchical Numbering at any time either before or after drawing nodes.
