The FastBack clients cannot connect to the FastBack server via an IP address or via the FastBack server host name. The FastBack server service is started and operates normally, all firewall settings are defined correctly, and a ping from a FastBack client to the FastBack server succeeds.
The FastBack server machine has more than one NIC.
The FastBack server service is assigned to one specific NIC. The assignment occurs during the FastBack server application installation. If the FastBack server has more than one NIC interface, the FastBack server service might be assigned to a different NIC and IP address than expected.
Diagnosing the problem
Diagnosing the problem
Check the FastBack server IP address definition in the General tab of the FastBack Manager. Ensure that the same IP address is defined on every FastBack client computer. This is done using the FastBack client configuration application.
If the FastBack server host name is defined in the FastBack client configuration, ping the host name from the FastBack client. Check whether the ping receives packets from the IP address that is defined in the General tab of the FastBack Manager. If the ping returns from a different IP address than the one defined in FastBack server settings, the FastBack server service is assigned to a different NIC and IP address than expected.
Run the following commands on the FastBack server:
telnet <FastBack server IP> 1320
telnet <FastBack server IP> 11406
If telnet connects successfully and returns an empty black screen with no communication errors, it means that you used the IP address (NIC interface) where the FastBack server service is located.
Resolving the problem
Define the correct FastBack server IP address in the FastBack client configuration.
If the NIC interfaces on the FastBack server have IP addresses that belong to different networks, use the
route command on the FastBack client computers to connect to the correct FastBack server IP address.
route add <FastBack server IP address> <FastBack Server gateway IP address>
The <FastBack server IP address> is the IP address of the NIC to which the FastBack server service is assigned.
The <FastBack server gateway IP address> is the IP address of the FastBack server NIC, which is connected to the same network with the FastBack client.
