Problem(Abstract)
When opening a Microsoft Word object inside Cognos Financial Statement Reporting, you receive the following error: "There was a problem accessing Word, there may be a dialog open that is interfering with this applications communication with Word. Please close any dialogs that may be open in Word."
Symptom
Error when opening Word object::
"There was a problem accessing Word, there may be a dialog open that is interfering with this applications communication with Word. Please close any dialogs that may be open in Word."
Cause
This error is related to a dialog box initialized by Word during normal start-up. The dialog box itself may be any Word error that you can be encountered while using Word outside FSR, so there are multiple scenarios that could cause this type of issue.
For example :
"The paper size of section 1 is different from the printer page size"
Environment
FSR 6.6.0.0 up to 6.6.1.1
Diagnosing the problem
Open a Word object inside FSR. Check whether any error messages are received.
Resolving the problem
Depending on what the dialog box from Word states find the cause on the Microsoft support website and solve the issue raised by it. Then the issue will be resolved in FSR as well.
In the example, the solution is to make sure that the paper size set in page setup is the same as the one set on the printer.
