This Alert is meant to inform you about an issue that can occur where attempts to access IBM Rational Team Concert (RTC) or IBM Rational Quality Manager (RQM) results in the server becoming unresponsive with java.lang.StackOverflowError.
The pool of JDBC connections used by the application has grown very large and is filled with connections that cannot be used. This can lead to overall slowness and possibly a hang. The problem appears to be triggered by transient network connection issues.
This issue was identified as a product defect 245345.
This error can occur in the IBM Rational Collaborative Lifecycle Management (CLM) 4.0, 4.0.1, 188.8.131.52 and 184.108.40.206 applications. This cannot occur in versions prior to 4.0.
The application server log file will contain a stack trace such as:
com.ibm.ws.webcontainer.servlet.ServletWrapper service Uncaught service() exception thrown by servlet equinoxbridgeservlet: java.lang.StackOverflowError
IBM Rational support has a testfix that changes the connection pool handling within the applications to avoid the stack overflow and associated slowness in the server.
Contact IBM Rational Support to request the testfix for the version of CLM you are running.
Note: The fix will not address network connection issues, but will prevent StackOverflowErrors and the growth of the connection pool.
