Problem(Abstract)

With a ITNM GUI only installation server, which ports must be opened for the MIB Browser to work?

Symptom

ITNM core can discover and query devices, yet MIB Browser fails

Environment

ITNM Core installation on one server, ITNM GUI on another server

Diagnosing the problem

Review the ServiceData.cfg file in $NCHOME/etc/precision on the ITNM core server

Resolving the problem

The ITNM GUI only server uses the helper server (ncp_d_helpserv) on the ITNM core to access devices. The important port which must be allowed through any firewall is the ncp_d_helpserv port referenced on the $NCHOME/etc/precision/ServiceData.cfg file.

For example this reference in the file

SERVICE: Helper DOMAIN: NCOMS ADDRESS: 192.168.0.1 PORT: 49440 SERVERNAME: coreserver1 DYNAMIC: YES

port 49440 must be available between the ITNM core server, and the ITNM gui server
for the MIB Browser to properly function.
