Some Rational Change 5.2 and 5.3 dialogs will not display properly in IE 9

Troubleshooting

Problem

Some of the web pages of IBM Rational Change 5.2, 5.3 or any of its fix packs, will not render properly when opened in Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 9.

Symptom

Some of the Rational Change 5.2 and 5.3 dialogs will not be rendered properly in IE 9.

For example:

  • The CCM_EXTENDED_TEXT attributes are not editable
  • New query dialog is distorted
  • You are unable to do Advanced Search operations

Cause

IE 9 rendering of Javascript, HTML, DOM and CSS is different than that of its previous versions. This makes some of the Rational Change 5.2 and 5.3 dialogs not to be compatible with IE 9.

Resolving The Problem

Use IE9 Quirks mode in which the Rational Change web pages will be shown properly.

How to enable IE 9 Quirks mode:

  1. Start Internet Explorer 9.

  2. Click the menu Tools > Developer Tools (alternatively, press F12).

This opens the Developer Tools window which has two menu items that are of interest:
    • Browser Mode. This setting determines the value of the user-agent header sent for every request.
    • Document Mode. This setting determines how the rendering engine renders the page.

  3. Choose Quirks mode under Document Mode.

These issues have been fixed in Rational Change 5.3.1.
