Renaming a participant fails and results in a hang at the status message "Accruing Referring Items" in Rational System Architect

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

Attempts to change a participant name fails and results in a hang at the status message "Accruing Referring Items" in IBM Rational System Architect (SA).

Symptom

When you try to change the name of a participant you will notice:

  • The participant does not get renamed.
  • SA is hung.
  • You see in the status bar the message:
    Accruing Referring Items
  • You may see in a "Verify Only" window errors similar to the following:
    Error: Invalid Entity

Cause

This can be caused by corrupt referred entries in an encyclopedia as described in the results of a verify command on the encyclopedia.

Diagnosing the problem

To confirm the problem in the encyclopedia you can Run a "Verify Only" on the encyclopedia:

From the SA menu bar select "Tools > Verify Encyclopedia > Verify Only" and analyse the information that should be displayed in the "Verify Only" window.

Resolving the problem

Procedure:

  1. Ensure that you are the database owner (db_owner) of the encyclopedia.

  2. Run a "Verify and Repair" on the encyclopedia. From the SA menu bar, select "Tools > Verify Encyclopedia > Verify and Repair".

  3. Try the participant rename.
