Problem(Abstract)

Attempts to restart IBM Rational License Key Server in redundant license server setup results in the error "Vendor daemon can’t talk to lmgrd".

Symptom

When the server fails to start, you see these messages in the log file:

17:08:31: (ibmratl) Vendor daemon can't talk to lmgrd (Cannot connect to license server system. (-15,570:115 "Operation now in progress"))
17:08:31 (ibmratl) EXITING DUE TO SIGNAL 37 Exit reason 5
17:08:31 (lmgrd) ibmratl exited with status 37 (Communications error)


Cause

Hosts file in the three license server machines (Primary, Secondary and Tertiary) has not been updated with the correct IP address and the hostname of the respective machines

Resolving the problem

Procedure:

  1. Edit the /etc/hosts file in Primary, Secondary and Tertiary license server machines

  2. Add the hostname and IP address of the Primary, Secondary and the Tertiary machines in the respective hosts file.

  3. Save the hosts file

  4. Restart the lmgrd process.
