TSAM 7.2.4 slow GUI response and CPU spikes

Technote (troubleshooting)


Problem(Abstract)

The TSAM 7.2.4 SelfService UI pauses and gives very slow response or freezes and the CPU utilization spins out of control.

Symptom

You see JAVA using 100% CPU and restarting TSAM brings the GUI back to a responsive state and CPU under control.


Cause

WebSphere 6.1 issue reported in WAS APAR IV36089: PERFORMANCE DEGRADATION WHEN DESTROYING THREADS AFTER APPLYING IZ80900

Resolving the problem

Install the WebSphere fix. You can download it from URL:

Fix: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24034301

It containing the following APARs:
WAS APAR: PM82015
JDK APAR: IV36089

To verify that it was successfully installed run the command "java -version" - it should return the following result:

/opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/java/bin # ./java -version
java version "1.5.0"

1. Make sure you use the latest updateinstaller that is provided at the above link
2. If you have more than one WAS 6.1 installed you need to update each one of them to the correct version
