Maximo Allows Negative Balance After Balance Adjustment

Technote (FAQ)

Question

Is there a reason that the two options to disallow Negative Current Balance and disallow Negative Available Balance seem not to function?

Cause

This issue is not a bug. The original design and functionality called for negative balance to only be checked as part of material usage and transfer transactions and NOT to be employed during balance adjustments.

The design team concurs that a client may desire to have this functionality applied to adjustments as well and would consider this for inclusion in a future release under an enhancement request.

Answer

The Negative Current Balance Table.Column MAXVARINPUT.NEGATIVECURBAL
specifies whether Maximo will allow users to ISSUE or TRANSFER items
with a negative current balance. If Allow Negative Balance is selected,
users can issue items with a negative balance. If Disallow Negative
Balance is selected (the default), users cannot issue such items.

NOTE:
Maximo checks balances at the Bin level, not the Storeroom level.

It will have no effect on whether or not inventory adjustments will
result in negative balances.
