Unable to connect to Administration Center due to permission denied.


Technote (troubleshooting)


Problem(Abstract)

The Tivoli Storage Manager administration center is installed correctly and the startServer.sh or startTCRserver.sh script starts successfully without errors but error SRVE0255E is logged when trying to logon.

Symptom

The following message is issued when trying to access the Administration Center:

SRVE0255E: A WebGroup/Virtual Host to handle /ibm/console.logon.jsp has not been defined.

Cause

The Administration Center server1 is not started with the correct userid.

Diagnosing the problem

The /opt/IBM/tivoli/tipv2/profiles/TIPProfile/logs/server1/SystemOut.log file (default location) needs to be reviewed for errors. Specifically, the following error is logged :


ADMR0104E: The system is unable to read document cells/TIPCell/cus/IBM Cognos 8/cver/BASE/cu.xml: java.io.IOException: Permission denied


Resolving the problem

In this case, the Administration Center was not start using the root userid. Start the Administration Center with startServer.sh or startTCRserver.sh using the root userid.
