Will Lotus SmartSuite or Lotus Organizer work on the Microsoft Windows 8 operating system?



Lotus SmartSuite is no longer sold or supported. As of June 11, 2013 IBM Lotus SmartSuite and Organizer are not available for download from the Passport Advantage website.

SmartSuite and Lotus Organizer are not supported on the Windows 8 32-bit and 64-bit platforms.

Some users are running SmartSuite and Lotus Organizer on Windows 8.

If you are using SmartSuite, or Organizer, installed on Windows 8, please be aware there is no support provided by SmartSuite technical support.

SmartSuite applications (Lotus 1-2-3®, Lotus Word Pro®, Lotus Freelance Graphics®, Lotus Approach®, and Organizer 5.x) as well as Organizer 6.1 work on different releases of the Windows operating system and currently work on Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit; with technical support provided by SmartSuite technical support.

Some customers have experience an error, "Error accessing system registry", when installing SmartSuite on Windows 8.

These steps have resolved the error:

    In one case, the following steps provide a workaround. If you are in the error message dialog box, click OK to exit.

    If you are using the downloaded software, navigate to the files you extracted to your computer.
      1. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM Lotus SmartSuite\

      2. Right-click on setup.exe --> choose Run As Administrator.

      3. Double click on setup.exe

      The install should begin without error.

    How to use the CD to install to workaround the error.
      1. From the Windows taskbar, choose Computer --> find the SmartSuite icon in the CD/DVD drive.

      2. Right-click the SmartSuite icon and choose Explore, or open in new window, to display the files included on the SmartSuite CD.

      3. Navigate to setup.exe, right-click setup.exe --> choose Run As Administrator.

      4. Double click on setup.exe

      The install should begin without error.

      Note: Be sure to do a Custom install. Notice the bottom left hand corner, it will show you where the software will install. If it shows any drive besides C:, be sure to click Change on the bottom right hand corner and type in C:\Lotus. Continue with install.
