Updating AppScan Standard to 8.6.0.1 results in error ".msi cannot be found".

Problem(Abstract)

Updating IBM Security AppScan Standard 8.6.0.0 to 8.6.0.1 results in error "The path ... AppScan Standard.msi cannot be found" or "Required files from your AppScan Standard 8.6.0.0 installation are missing".

Symptom

There are two different error messages, depending on if you update AppScan Standard manually or using the the Automatic Update tool.

  • When using the Automatic Update tool, the following error can occur:

    IBM Security AppScan Standard
    The path 'C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Downloaded Installations\AppScan\{C9A8C530-C3A7-4702-924E-679C8A75CA9B}\IBM Security AppScan Standard.msi' cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package 'IBM Security AppScan Standard.msi' in a folder from which you can install the product IBM Security AppScan Standard.

  • When manually installing the update, the following error can occur:

    IBM Security AppScan Standard - Installation Wizard Upgrade cannot be completed. Required files from your AppScan Standard 8.6.0.0 installation are missing. Please uninstall/reinstall that version and attempt the fixpack installation again.


Cause

Having AppScan Standard versions 8.5 and 8.6 installed on the same PC may lead to the error. The error will occur depending on the order AppScan 8.5 and AppScan 8.6 were installed. If version 8.5 was installed after version 8.6, then the error will occur.

Note 1: The Readme.html of AppScan Standard 8.6.0.1 in the Installation and license information section explains how the error can occur:

Note 2: AppScan Standard version 8.6 can be installed side by side on the same computer with an earlier version of AppScan Standard (such as version 8.5).


However, the 'IBM Security AppScan Standard.msi' cannot be found' error can occur also without version 8.5 being installed. This can be due to a corrupt installation of version 8.6.

Verify if versions 8.5 and 8.6 are installed on the same PC.

Resolving the problem

If an earlier version of AppScan Standard was installed after installing version 8.6, reinstall Version 8.6 as follows:

  1. Uninstall 8.6
  2. Install 8.6
  3. Update to 8.6.0.1 either using the Automatic Update tool or by manually installing Fixpack01.

If only AppScan Standard 8.6 was installed:
  1. Repair the installation.
  2. Update to 8.6.0.1 either using the Automatic Update tool or by manually installing Fixpack01.
