Cannot load out-of-the-box spaces in WebSphere Business Monitor and IBM Business Monitor

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

If Business Monitor is unable to load out-of-the-box spaces, make sure that the user ID is an administrative user, belonging to the administrative group by checking oobLoadedStatus.properties.

Symptom

Business Monitor cannot load out-of-the-box spaces, and old spaces are not visible.

Cause

The admin user is not configured correctly.

Environment

All

Diagnosing the problem

Check the oobLoadedStatus.properties before and after the startup of the system. If the flags which were set to true were not changed to false, then the Out of Box artifacts are not getting initialized.

The flags in WebSphere Business Monitor V7.x are:

importTemplates.txt=true
importSpaces.txt=true

The flags in IBM Business Monitor V7.5 and above are:

importTemplates.txt=true
importSpaces.txt=true
importThemes.txt=true

Resolving the problem

The following properties should have the userID for Super User in both configSevice properties, and in the admin console for mashup config service properties:
MashupAdminForOOBSpace =
AdminInternalUserOnly =

and the userID should belong to the Administrative Group, as configured in the following properties.
com.ibm.mashups.adminGroupName =
displaySpaceAdminFeaturesGroup =

If you are using stand alone LDAP, the group name has to be a fully qualified name.

If you are using stand alone LDAP, the group name has to be the DN (Distinguished Name) exactly as found in the LDAP, using the same upper and lower case characters.

Otherwise, shortnames can be used.

If the com.ibm.mashups.adminGroupName property is using role mapping (Business Space V7.5 and later), then ensure that the value for MashupAdminForOOBSpace is an Admin userID that is correctly mapped to an Admin Role, or belongs to a group that is mapped to the Admin Role.

This mapping can be done through the WebSphere Application Server (WAS) admin console:

  1. Log into the WAS admin console.
  2. Click Applications.
  3. Expand Application Types.
  4. Click WebSphere enterprise applications.
  5. Select the mm.was.xxx.ear application.
  6. Click the link "Security role to user/group mapping.
  7. Select the Admin role by checking the box, and use the Map Users... and/or the Map Groups... button to map the role to the users and/or groups.
