Activation of Enterprise Extender connection dialing out to predefined switched PU fails with sense FFC80004

Troubleshooting

Problem

Activation of Enterprise Extender (EE) connection fails with following messages issued by VTAM: IST097I VARY ACCEPTED IST1132I puname IS ACTIVE, TYPE = PU_T2 IST590I CONNECTOUT FAILED FOR PU puname ON LINE linename IST1139I CONNOUT FOR puname FAILED - SENSE:FFC80004 IST1045I NODE TYPE = PU_T2 The PU named in messages IST1132I, IST590I and IST1139I is defined in the Enterprise Extender switched major node.

Diagnosing The Problem

The message IST590I indicates that an attempt to establish an EE connection to switched PU puname over the logical line linename was not successful. The connection failure sense code FFC80004 is set by VTAM to indicate that the connection attempted duplicates an existing connection's SAPADDR value. The SAPADDR value specified on the PATH definition statement associated with the PU was 4. This SAPADDR value specifies the remote service address point (RSAP) value.

The Enterprise Extender XCA major node defined a globaL(VNTYPE=GLOBAL) virtual routing node (VRN). When the predefined PU was activated, a dynamic PU representing the EE connection using that global VRN had already been established. The dial-out attempt to the predefined PU collided with the already existing VRN connection, resulting in the failure of the dial-out attempt.

Because VTAM dynamically sets the RSAP to 04 for VRN dynamic PUs, it is not best practice to define a SAPADDR=4 on the switched PU definitions, as it can collide with VRN-generated SAP assignments.

In the description of the use of SAPADDR in the switched major node for EE, it is recommended that the customer:
" Use the defaults for SAPADDR on the PATH definition statements." The default value for SAPADDR on the PATH definition statement is 8.

Resolving The Problem

Change the PATH statement associated with the predefined switched EE PU to not code the SAPADDR parameter. This will cause VTAM to default the SAPADDR value to 8, and avoid a collision with a preexisting VRN connection using 4 as the SAPADDR value.
