WebSphere Application Server Community Edition 3.0 server templates may not show up in WebSphere Virtual Enterprise

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

If you already have a WebSphere Virtual Enterprise (WVE) 7.0.0.0, 7.0.0.1 or 7.0.0.2 environment with WebSphere Application Server Community Edition (WAS CE) 3.0.0.1 or higher already installed, you will need to move to WVE 7.0.0.3 to pick up APAR PM62379. However, in this scenario the wasce30 server templates are missing.

Diagnosing the problem

If you try to create a new WAS CE server in the admin console, you will not see a wasce30 or wasce30s template to select.

Resolving the problem

If you already have a WebSphere Virtual Enterprise 7.0.0.0, 7.0.0.1 or 7.0.0.2 environment with WebSphere Application Server Community Edition 3.0.0.1 or higher already installed, You will need to move to WVE 7.0.0.3 to pick up APAR PM62379. However, in this scenario where WAS CE is already installed, you will only have available the server templates from wasce20 and lower when trying to create a new server. You will need to follow these steps to add these server templates:

  1. Stop the cell.
  2. Make a copy of the directory <WAS_ROOT>/profiles/<profileName>/config/templates/servertypes/
  3. Replace it with the following WASCE_SERVER folder from the DMGR :<WAS_ROOT>/profileTemplates/xd_augment/dmgr/documents/config/templates/servertypes/WASCE_SERVER

If you only install WAS CE after installing WVE 7.0.0.3, you will not run into this issue.
