How to restart Rational License Server without overwriting the license logs

Technote (FAQ)

Question

How do you restart IBM Rational License Key Server without overwriting the license logs (lmgrd.log)?

Cause

License logs would get overwritten during the license server restart due to which you may lose the old license logging information.

Answer

Procedure:

  1. Create an options file with the following contents

    DEBUGLOG +<location of the license.log>

  2. Deploy the options file to the license server machine

  3. Edit the license file and add the following information next to VENDOR ibmratl

VENDOR ibmratl OPTIONS=“path of the options file including the filename”

  4. Save the license file

  5. Restart the license server
Now the license logs would get upended every time the license server is restarted instead of overwriting.

Note: Over a period of time size of license logs would get increased if it’s not allowed to overwrite on license server restart.
