Problem(Abstract)

Attempts to evaluate an expression results in error "The expression is not valid: Illegal or misplaced character "-" in IBM Rational Focal Point

Symptom

  1. Create two float attributes A&B in Rational Focal Point

  2. Create a Mirror Attribute point to Attribute B

  3. Create another float Attribute 'Sum' and put the expression as
    Sum=('A'-'Mirror Attribute')

  4. Click on evaluate expression button and you would observe the reported error


Cause

The error is because of the placement of parenthesis in the expression.

Resolving the problem

You can rewrite the expression in the following ways to resolve the reported error

Sum='A'-'Mirror Attribute'

OR

Sum=('A'-('Mirror Attribute'))
