Technote (troubleshooting)
Problem
A SmartCloud Notes user wants to access their mail file with a Notes client. From liveNotes.nsf, they download their customized config.nsf file, and try to open it. However it will not open, giving an error message such as:
The Smartcloud Notes configuration tool has failed.
One or more required parameters were not set: <list of parameter names>
Cause
Possible causes:
- The user's directory information is incomplete, so the information copied into config.nsf is incomplete. This normally would only happen in a hybrid environment, and can be caused by someone or something on-premises editing the Person document in the Domino directory and deleting values.
- The user is using a copy of the config.nsf instead of the exact file downloaded from the SmartCloud Notes web server, and the copy has incomplete information.
Diagnosing the problem
If you're a company administrator:
Check the user's Person document in the server address book and see whether values have been specified for the fields mentioned in the error message. Domain is the user's Notes mail domain. ServerAddress is not in the person record -- that's provided by SmartCloud, so if it's missing it's not your fault -- contact SmartCloud support. The other fields we might complain about at this point are obvious from their names. If they're not missing on your end, contact SmartCloud support.
It's okay to have a user with no Notes mail domain, except that such a user can't use the Notes client, so config.nsf will not help them. Unless you assign them a Notes domain, they can only use web mail.
Resolving the problem
Make sure the user is using a recent config.nsf download. Update the user's records with the required information, download config.nsf again.
A bug report has been entered to provide a clearer message to the end user in the specific case of missing Notes domain.
