Issues with SiteProtector Console connecting to Application Server using NAT

Technote (troubleshooting)


Unable to connect remote console to the Application Server and getting connection refused or name cannot be resolved error.


The remote SiteProtector Console cannot connect to the SiteProtector Application server.

Diagnosing the problem

You may see the message in the SiteProtector Console:

The fully qualified DNS name "NAME" of the Application server could not be resolved to the IP.

Resolving the problem

First, verify if you able to telnet from the console system to Application Server on port 3998/3999.

Second, have the IPBind value set to either public IP or FQDN (see instructions below).

The SiteProtector documentation states, "To correct NAT communication problems, you must configure SiteProtector components to use either a public IP address or a fully qualified domain name."

Instructions for checking IPBind/JVM option # value in registry (we strongly suggest backing up registry before making any change):

  1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\issSPAppService\Parameters
    Name: JVM Option Number 7 (In the documentation, it is listed as 6 which is incorrect)
    Type: REG_SZ
    Data: -Djava.rmi.server.hostname=<FQDN or Public IP address>

  2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\issSPSenCtlService\Parameters
    Name: IPBind
    Type: REG_SZ
    Data: -Djava.rmi.server.hostname=<FQDN or Public IP address>

  3. Restart Application Server and Sensor Controller services and if the problem persists, collect Application Server logs and console trace for support analysis by following the instructions in Technote 1689014: Gathering SiteProtector Console logs.
