Question

Is the timeout property in the 99Local.xml configuration file valid for IBM Business Process Manager V7.5.1?

Cause

This issue has been identified as a product defect under APAR JR45510 and will be documented in the IBM Business Process Manager Version 7.5.1 Information Center.

Answer

Yes, the timeout property in the 99Local.xml configuration file is valid for IBM Business Process Manager V7.5.1.

The timeout property is used to specify the amount of time to wait for a web service response when you invoke an outbound request. It specifies the maximum time, in seconds, to wait for a response to be returned. The value minus one (-1) is the default value. The -1 value causes the property to be ignored, and the default value for the underlying web service engine, which is 300 seconds, is used for the request timeout. If the system does not respond in the required time, an exception is generated and the request fails.

Specify a value that is reasonable for your web service application. If the timeout value is set to an unrealistically short time, an exception might result even in a case where the web service invocation is successful. If the timeout value is set excessively long, performance might suffer because the system waits too long before generating an exception.

The 99Local.xml stanza for the timeout property looks like the following example:
<--Timeout in seconds to wait when invoking WebService using SOAPConnector
  Use -1 to disable-->
<timeout>-1</timeout>

Note: The 99Local.xml property can exist in the following locations within your environment:

  • Stand-alone server: PROFILE_ROOT\config\cells\cell_name\nodes|stand-alone_node_name\servers\server_name\server_type\config\system\99Local.xml

  • Network Deployment Process Server cluster: PROFILE_ROOT\config\cells\cell_name\clusters\cluster_name\server_type\config\system\99Local.xml

  • Network Deployment - Each Process Server cluster member: PROFILE_ROOT\config\cells\cell_name\nodes\custom_node_name\servers\cluster_member_name\server_type\config\system\99Local.xml

  • Network Deployment - Single server: PROFILE_ROOT\config\cells\cell_name\nodes\custom_node_name\servers\server_name\server_type\config\system\99Local.xml
