7206 LANG or LC_CTYPE environment variable is invalid while trying to bring up onmonitor

Troubleshooting


Problem

Your try to run onmonitor and receive errno -7206 -7206 LANG or LC_CTYPE environment variable is invalid. Either the LANG or the LC_CTYPE environment variable setting is invalid. Set either or both variables to the values that your system supports.

Cause

The LC_CTYPE or LANG are incorrect. Normally it is the LC_CTYPE so I will discuss that in this tech note. -7206 LANG or LC_CTYPE environment variable is invalid.

Either the LANG or the LC_CTYPE environment variable setting is invalid. Set either or both variables to the values that your system supports.

Diagnosing The Problem

In the example below the LC_CTYPE is set to fr which in this case is incorrect and should be

en_US.ISO8859-1

LC_CTYPE=fr
LC_ALL=en_US

Server env is

LC_COLLATE en_US.ISO8859-1
LC_CTYPE fr
[fr]
[en_US.ISO8859-1]
LC_MONETARY en_US.ISO8859-1
LC_NUMERIC en_US.ISO8859-1
LC_TIME en_US.ISO8859-1

Resolving The Problem

Set the LC_CTYPE or LANG to the correct Environment Variable bounce INFORMIX DYNAMIC SERVER ensure the environment variable is correct then retry starting on-monitor.
