Problem(Abstract)
The Data Protection Microsoft SQL backup fails with rc=418.
Symptom
The dsierror.log of the client will also show the following error :
ANS1311E Server out of data storage space.
Diagnosing the problem
Examine the Tivoli Storage Manager server activity log. The following messages were logged :
ANR0534W Transaction failed for session nnn for node MYSQL_NODE (TDP MSSQL Win64) - size estimate exceeded and server is unable to obtain additional space in storage pool MYDISKPOOL. (SESSION: nnn)
ANE4993E (Session: 2911000, Node: ZELLNERTST_SQL_NPRD) TDP MSSQL Win64 ACO3002 Data Protection for SQL: full backup of database MYSQLDB from server MYSQLSERVER failed, rc = 418. (SESSION: nnn)
This shows that the size estimate provided by MS SQL was too low and there was no additional space available in the MYDISKPOOL storage pool to acquire the needed additional space.
Resolving the problem
There are two possible solutions to this as follows.
1. Apply the fix for apar IC86125 once available.
2. Use the /ADJUSTKBtsmestimate=numkb and/or /ADJUSTPERcenttsmestimate=numpercent parameter on the "tdpsqlc backup" command to adjust the size estimate (generated by the SQL Server), which may be too low in certain instances.
