IBM Virtual Desktop Version 6.7 Service Pack 1

Content

Welcome to IBM Virtual Desktop, Version 6.7 SP1
January 7, 2012
Build number 19452

The following IBM Virtual Desktop 6.7 fixes are available in Service Pack 1:

VERDE Installation and Upgrade
VERDE can be installed on a bare metal machine or on an existing Linux 64-bit server that meets the minimum system requirements. System requirements, installation, and upgrade instructions are detailed in the IBM Virtual Desktop Administrator Guide, Version 6.7 SP1.
Upgrade is supported from the previous releases:
• VERDE 6.7
• VERDE 6.6 SP2

Notes: This assumes that these previous releases used VERDE's native authentication support rather than PAM authentication. Upgrade from a VERDE 5.x release requires VERDE Professional Services support.
Upgrade from 6.6 SP2 requires storage migration to enable the multi-tenancy feature. If this feature is not needed or wanted, the storage migration process is not necessary. This process is also documented in the IBM Virtual Desktop Administrator Guide.
Fixed in this Release
The following were fixed in this release:
1. Pooled desktop sessions don't show a start state, only available, even before they are actually available. (5301)
2. The MAC address reporting page in global scope does not show the organization in which particular desktop belongs. (5297)
3. The VERDE Console will allow the action of deleting a role that is assigned to a user, though the role is not removed from the system. The Roles page still displays the role. Roles that are assigned to users should not be deleted. (5299)
4. Application layers do not work in pooled desktops. (5211)
5. If launching a USB-enabled Linux guest session with NX from a Windows XP client, the session will fail to start and display an error, “The session name <path> not found.” (5183)
6. If using Cisco AnyConnect VPN client to access guest sessions, IPv6 must be disabled on the VPN connection in the Windows Network & Sharing Center. (4711)
7. MAC address pools cannot be created for this release. Edit the Default MAC Address pool in global space to change the values. All tenant organizations will get unique MAC addresses from the same pool. (5349)
8. A user with Session Settings read-only permission will see, “An error has occurred. Please contact your system administrator. Click here to continue.” To avoid the error, assign a role that has full permissions for Session Settings for this release. (5346)
9. If the name of an organization is changed, an error displays. Do not rename an organization after it is created. (5348)
10. Rebooting the server after changing the IP address in VERDE menu causes the change to fail. After changing the IP address, Stop System Services and then Start System Services and Networking without rebooting the server. (5321)
11. A Gold Image provisioned to a desktop pool can be deleted. Make sure that a Gold Image is not provisioned to users before deleting it. (5330)
12. Importing a Gold Image fails if an image of the same name resides in a different organization. Make sure that all Gold Images have unique names for this release. (5325)
13. Changing the IP address of a VERDE server may result in the VERDE Console on that node not being reachable for several minutes. (5322)
14. SPICE fixes and enhancements:
• Switching between dual monitor and single monitor issues for Windows guests are fixed (3537, 3241)
• Auto resolution when switching from full screen to windowed mode is fixed (3744)
• Mouse offset in windowed mode is fixed (3809)
• New toolbar to switch viewing modes and disconnect is available (1096)
• Switching to full screen mode no longer fills the screen (4823)

Known Issues in this Release
The following are known issues in this release:
1. It is possible to provision Gold Images before they are checked into the VERDE Console. Gold Images created or imported into the VERDE Console should be checked in before assigning them through Desktop Policy. (5295)

2. Only one organization can be created for a Branch in this release. (5303)
3. Creating a VERDE local user from a MAC with Safari 4.0.5 does not work as expected. Use Firefox on a MAC client to create a local user in the VERDE Console. (5714)
4. If a user is created with no explicit roles, but is made a member of a group that has roles, the user inherits those roles. However, the roles that the user has inherited from the group membership cannot be seen from the user account. (5280)
5. If a user is created with the Organization Administrator role and no other roles, the user cannot be assigned to multiple organizations. Doing so will result in a permissions error once that user logs in. (5180)
6. Users cannot inherit an administrative role through a group assignment. Users must have an administrative role explicitly assigned. (5358)
7. Roles cannot be edited in this release. (5366)
8. An LDAP provider can be deleted, which removes users who were added to VERDE as well. Do not remove an LDAP server if related users still exist in VERDE. (5331)
9. Do not use the verde-util utility to force a server promotion to cluster master. It does not work properly and may cause database issues. (5597)
10. NFSv4 is listed as an option in VERDE menu, but is not fully functioning for this release. Choose NFSv3. (5642)
11. The Organizations page does not display if upgrading from 6.6 SP2 without the storage migration process as described in the VERDE Administration Guide. If multi-tenancy is not a wanted or needed feature, the storage migration is not necessary as part of an upgrade from 6.6 SP2. (5627)
12. Install from PXE boot in a Western language other than English does not work. Use the CD install for non-English languages. (5661)
13. Even though a tenant organization can view some global objects, such as Gold Images from global space, Desktop Pools cannot be assigned to the organization from the global space. Gold Images created in the global space can be only assigned to rules in Desktop Policy in the organizational view.
14. Cannot upload custom PNG files (logos for tenant organizations) using Microsoft Internet Explorer as the browser. Use a browser other than Internet Explorer to upload custom images. (5673)
15. An organization that has networking set to Bridged will run as NAT, unless Bridged is specified in the Default Session Settings for that organization. Edit and save the organization defaults after creating an organization, even if there is no change desired, to make sure that constraints apply. (5677)
16. Installation of VERDE from an external USB CDROM is not supported. (5721)

Fixed in this Release
The following issues were fixed in this release:
1. Moved cacheIO read and cacheIO write directories to /home for a VERDE bare metal install so that the file system does not run out of space quickly. (4332)
2. If the user launched a desktop and then clicked on the VERDE User Console page, a session timeout countdown was started and eventually ended the running session. (4826)
3. A Windows XP Gold Image with SSO enabled (by default) no longer breaks roaming profiles. (2920)
4. The VERDE User Console now correctly captures the client time zone. (910, 4785)
