Sharing SCM Project results in Connection Forcibly being closed

Troubleshooting


Problem

Attempts to share a source control management (SCM) project results in CRJAZ0099I error when using IBM Rational Team Concert (RTC) Microsoft Visual Studio (VS) Client.

Symptom

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Share a local project in Jazz SCM by right-clicking the project in the Sandbox explorer

  2. Select "Share project in Jazz"

  3. Select the repository workspace and component.


The upload to Jazz SCM begins and a progress bar is shown. This will run for some time and eventually hang, and produce the following error message.

In the Visual Studio trace file, 1 or more occurrences of the following error message are present:
"Error during upload: Status code: 500"


Preceded by:
CRRTC5038W The versioned content service temp directory has been deleted.  This often can happen if the property 'vcs.tmpdir' is a directory within /tmp.  Please contact your server administrator.

You may also see the following error:

CRJAZ0099I When accessing the URL "https://<hostname>:<port>/ccm/service/com.ibm.team.scm.common.IScmService" the following HTTP error occurred: "An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host."

Cause

The content service temp directory properties in Jazz Team Server (JTS) Admin and Change and Configuration Management (CCM) Admin "Advanced Properties" by default is set to /tmp. The /tmp directory on the file system may have a file size quota on it.

Diagnosing The Problem

Enable verbose trace level in the Visual Studio client. The following error should be present in the trace log:

"Error during upload: Status code: 500"

Resolving The Problem

In JTS Admin and CCM Admin Advanced Properties, change the content service temp directory path from /tmp to a different directory, such as '/var/temp'.
