WDI 3.3.0 for z/OS Product Enablement feature question

Technote (FAQ)

Question

Does WebSphere Data Interchange v3.3.0 for z/OS support the Product Enablement feature controlled via the IFAPRDxx members in the PARMLIB?

The system allowed the product to run on an LPAR for which WDI was disabled. PARMLIB example:
PRODUCT ID(5655-I40) STATE(DISABLED)

And the syslog after the SET PROD command:
IFA100I IN PARMLIB MEMBER=IFAPRDxx ON LINE 2
PRODUCTS WITH OWNER=* NAME=*
FEATURE=* VERSION=*.*.* ID=5655-I40
HAVE BEEN DISABLED.

Cause

Customer wants to be able to utilize feature to restrict the product's use in their sysplex.

Answer

WDI does not support this particular use of the Register Service to check product enablement status. While WDI does register with the Ifaedreg_Type_Required registration, the type of registration does not require any entries in enablement parmlib in order to register, nor does it check for disabled entries. WDI registration is only performed as a requirement for tracking product utilization.
