Visual Studio Client does not refresh pending changes when used with a RTC 4.x server

Technote (troubleshooting)


Attempts to edit a file in Microsoft Visual Studio Client for IBM Rational Team Concert (RTC) results in the file not displaying in the pending changes view.


When editing a file in the Visual Studio IDE for RTC, the file will not be displayed in the pending changes view after it is saved. A manual refresh of local and remote changes are required to have the file display in the pending changes view.


After the repository workspace was loaded the user did not select to open a solution.

In version 3.0.1.x of the Visual Studio client for RTC, the Pending Changes functionality depends on whether the solution is open. This has changed in 4.x versions.


This will only occur when a 3.0.1.x Visual Studio Client is used with a version 4.x RTC server. Using a 4.x Visual Studio Client will not observe the same behavior.

Resolving the problem

When prompted if a solution should open after the workspace loads successfully, select 'yes' and select the solution.

Otherwise, manually refresh the local and remote changes as a workaround.
