Quickr Searching has a limit of 64K for result URLs.

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem

When searching in Quickr, users may notice that not all documents are returned. This is due to a limitation in the way that Quickr returns it's results strings.

Symptom

Not all documents returned in search.

Cause

When a search is run on a large number of documents, the results are returned via a string. This strail contains a list of URLs, and the amount of results that you see is dependant on the length of these URL strings. The length of the URLs in turn depends on the folder/room/document structure. The more hits in sub folders there are, the longer the URLs will be.

Once this list of URLs hits the limit of 64K, these results are returned, even if other results after this are ignored.

Environment

Quickr 8.5.x

Resolving the problem

This is a limitation of the product. To work around this, you can narrow your search focus both in terms of search scope, or in terms of the detail of the search string.

An enhancement request exists for this so that a message is displayed to the user when this limit is reached so they know to refine the search. Enhancement Request: DWHN-933MBA.
