SPSS Product license files may contain garbage characters.

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

SPSS Products installed on Windows via Install Anywhere will produce license files that contain garbage characters for the following languages:

Greek
Czech
Lithuanian
Slovenian
Turkish

These products (others may exist) include Collaboration and Deployment Services, Modeler Adapters, Statistics Adapters and Decision Management. Any SPSS Product that uses Install Anywhere to perform its install will experience this issue. During the install, the license information displayed in the GUI, will be translated properly . However, a LAP tool is used to merge the 2 license files (LI and LA) from legal to generate the license file that is stored within the product installation directory. It appears this LAP tool was not recognizing all the various Windows versions and therefore defaulting to the wrong code page. As a result, garbage characters will exists within the license files for the 5 languages listed above.

The code pages being used in the generation of the files are:

Greek: 813
Czech: 912
Lithuanian: 921
Slovenian: 912
Turkish: 920

The code pages that should have been used:

Greek: 1253
Czech: 1250
Lithuanian: 1257
Slovenian: 1250
Turkish: 1254

Resolving the problem

Pending fix. Workaround is to use tool such as NotePad++ to view the file with the proper encoding.
