There is no process to read data written to a pipe

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

A Tivoli Storage Manager for Space Management client is installed on AIX. Files are migrated migrated from a JFS2 file system using the HSM client. The AIX "cp" command fails to copy a migrated file with the above error

Symptom

The following error is reported when trying to copy a file using the "cp" command:
There is no process to read data written to a pipe

Cause

File system is not managed by HSM anymore

Diagnosing the problem

Verify that the file system from which files were migrated is still managed by HSM. Run the following command :

dsmmigfs query
In this case, the file system was previously managed by HSM and files were migrated to a Tivoli Storage Manager. The dsmmigfs query command would show the file system is longer managed by HSM but still contains files that were migrated.

Resolving the problem

Reconfigure the file system to be managed by HSM using the dsmmigfs add command. For example:

dsmmigfs add /filesystem_name
