TSAM support for vSCSI and NPIV

Technote (FAQ)

Question

Can a single TSAM on System p instances support both vSCSI resource pools and N_Port ID Virtualization resource pools?

Answer

Yes. If the TSAM - Extension for System p NPIV is installed on the TSAM server, N_Port ID Virtualization resource pools used in one data center and vSCSI resource pools used in another data center can both be managed by a single TSAM instance.

The TSAM - Extension for System p - NPIV extension is available for download from the Integrated Service Management Library at https://www-304.ibm.com/software/brandcatalog/ismlibrary/details?catalog.label=1TW10TS0I

It adds the following capability to ISDM/TSAM:

  • Request Virtual Fibre Channel Adapter(s) at the time of creating project with Power LPAR servers.
  • Request Virtual Fibre Channel Adapter(s) at the time of adding server to the existing LPAR project.
  • Save the image of server which has Virtual Fibre Channel Adapter(s).
  • Restore the server from the captured image having Virtual Fibre Channel Adapter(s).
