Enabling the unlimited logging function of the FastBack Server

Technote (FAQ)

Question

What is the way to have more then 40 FastBack Server logs kept in the same time?

Cause

The FastBack Server logs are filled with different events and messages and sometimes that happens on a very high frequency. Since the Fastback Server logs limitation is 40 log files to be kept at one time, the problem moment can be missed in such case making such problem troubleshooting hard.

Answer

Note: Please, do not forget to disable the unlimited FastBack Server logs option in the end of troubleshooting to avoid the system disk overflow problem.

To enable the unlimited FastBack Server logs option:

  1. Go to the FastBack Server logs folder
    • Windows 2008 path: %system drive%\programdata\tivoli\tsm\fastback\server
    • Windows 2003 path: %system drive%\application data\all users\tivoli\tsm\fastback\server
  2. Create the file named FAST_BACK_SERVER.KEP
  3. Restart the FastBack Server service.
