Enabling the unlimited logging function of the FastBack Server

Question

Is it possible to have more then 40 FastBack Server logs kept in the same time?

Cause

The FastBack Server logs are filled with different events and messages and sometimes that happens on a very high frequency. Since the Fastback Server log limitation is 40 log files to be kept at one time, the problem moment can be missed in such case making such problem troubleshooting hard.

Answer

To enable the unlimited FastBack Server logs option:

  1. Go to the FastBack Server logs folder
    • Windows 2008 path: %system drive%\programdata\tivoli\tsm\fastback\server
    • Windows 2003 path: %system drive%\application data\all users\tivoli\tsm\fastback\server
  2. Create a file named FAST_BACK_SERVER.KEP
  3. Ensure that Cleanup is not running.
  4. Restart the FastBack Server service.

Note: It is advised to monitor the FastBack Server logs growth to avoid the system disk from getting filled. Disable the unlimited FastBack Server logs option when the troubleshooting stage is finished and the logs are collected.

To disable the unlimited FastBack Server logs option, please:

  1. Erase the FAST_BACK_SERVER.KEP file.
  2. Ensure that Cleanup is not running.
  3. Restart the FastBack Server service.
