Documentation updates are available for InfoSphere Streams Version 3.0

News

Abstract

IBM® periodically makes documentation updates available for the local and web versions of the information center.

Content

The IBM InfoSphere Streams Version 3.0 Information Center at http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/streams/v3r0/index.jsp is up to date.

The same information also appears in Knowledge Center:
http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSCRJU_3.0.0/com.ibm.swg.im.infosphere.streams.homepage.doc/doc/kc-homepage.html

The local copies of the information center that are included in Version 3.0 Fix Pack 3 are also up to date.

If you want to update your current copy of the information center, you can download the documentation updates:

  1. Launch the information center.
Note: The update function is only available in the stand-alone mode. You must launch the information center using help_start.sh instead of using IC_start.sh.
  2. Click Update () on the toolbar. You will see a list of installed documentation sets.
  3. Click Next to see a list of updates that you can install.
  4. Select the documentation that you intend to install, and then click Install Updates.
The documentation updates are not cumulative, so you must select all of the updates in order to have an up-to-date information center.
  5. Click Finish when the installation is finished.
In general, you do not need to restart the information center because it refreshes automatically. When you restart the information center after installing Update 2 version 3.0.10 and later documentation updates, the information center uses a new banner. The new banner is suitable for environments where you do not have persistent network connectivity.

These instructions are also available within the local IBM InfoSphere Streams Version 3.0 Information Center in the Info Center Home > Using the information center section.

If you installed the information center on a computer that does not have access to the internet, you can update the information by copying the documentation updates to a media device like a CD or USB flash drive. To update an information center from a media device, you must change the default location where the information center looks for updates.

  1. On a computer that has internet access, download the documentation updates from the update site. For example, the following wget command retrieves all of the documentation updates from ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/streams/v3r0m0/ into a folder called v3r0m0:

    wget -r -np -N -nH --cut-dirs=2 -o mirrorUpdateSite.log ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/streams/v3r0m0/
  2. Copy the documentation updates to a media device. Transfer the media to the computer where the information center is installed. For example, copy the v3r0m0 folder to a /tmp directory.
  3. Configure the information center to seek the documentation updates from the new location:
    1. Go to the com.ibm.iehs.updater plug-in. For example:
      cd InfoSphereStreamsIC_3.0.0.3/eclipse/plugins/com.ibm.iehs.updater*
    2. Edit the bookmarks.xml file so that it contains the new path to the documentation updates. For example:
      <site name="IBM InfoSphere Streams Version 3.0 Update Site" url="file:/tmp/v3r0m0/"/>
    3. Start the information center in stand-alone mode. For example, type the following command:
      . help_start.sh &
    4. Click the Update () icon on the toolbar.
    5. Click Next at the bottom to see the list of Updates for existing information collections and New information collections.
    6. Select the documentation that you intend to install, and then click Install Updates.
    7. Click Finish when the installation is finished. You do not need to restart the information center because it refreshes automatically. When you restart the information center after installing Update 2 version 3.0.10 and later documentation updates, the information center uses a new banner. The new banner is suitable for environments where you do not have persistent network connectivity.
For a summary of contents of the documentation update, see the "Documentation updates" topic in the Product overview section of the information center.
