Socket recording under Rational Performance Tester 8.2.x results in zero traffic being captured

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

Attempts to perform a Socket script recording under IBM Rational Performance Tester (RPT) 8.2.x results in zero traffic being captured.

Symptom

Image of the session results:

Cause

In RPT 8.2.x the sub-process creation was identified by the recording DLL due which it was difficult to intercept these sub processes. This behavior was generally noticed while recording the application which gets invoked by the BAT file.

Resolving the problem

This issue is fixed in Rational Performance Tester 8.3 and later.

There was a architecture change in the way the child processes are intercepted in 8.3 version such that the launcher DLL, now can manage the process creation, without the need of knowing what exact function was used.
