Checking the correct password for ssl certificates

Question

I am not sure on the password used to create certificates. I would like to have a tool to check for it

Answer

Run the following command:

openssl s_server -cert FTALNX851-1.crt -key FTLNX851-1.key

Tool asks for a password :-

Enter pass phrase for FTALNX851-1.key:

As soon as you have typed the correct password the following message is displayed :-

Loading 'screen' into random state - done
Using default temp DH parameters
Using default temp ECDH parameters
ACCEPT

Typing a wrong password the following message is displayed :-

unable to load server certificate private key file
5224:error:06065064:digital envelope routines:EVP_DecryptFinal_ex:bad decrypt:.\
crypto\evp\evp_enc.c:330:
5224:error:0906A065:PEM routines:PEM_do_header:bad decrypt:.\crypto\pem\pem_lib.
