Uninstalling Cognos Controller Client 10.1.1 FP1 does not work

Technote (troubleshooting)


When you uninstalled IBM Cognos Controller 10.1.1 FP1 and subsequently installed Cognos Controller 10.1.1, the Cognos Controller Link does not work.


When you access the Cognos Controller Link, the following error message is shown: “CoCreateInstance(ControllerXLDisp.MsgPusher) failed with 0x80070002”.

In some cases an additional error message is shown:
“A critical error occurred in Controller Link, probably due to missing file(s), and you won’t be able to work with it.

Please contact your system administrator.

Error Descr:
Automation error
The system cannot find the file specified.”

Resolving the problem

You must delete specific entries in the registry.


  1. Uninstall Cognos Controler Client 10.1.1 FP1.
  2. Search the registry for “controllerx1”.
  3. Delete all registry entries that contain the text “controllerx1”.
  4. Install Cognos Controller Client 10.1.1 or an earlier version.
