HTTP 401 (Unauthorized) error when browsing images

Troubleshooting

Problem

From Report Studio, a user tries to add an Image to their report. When they click on the elipse to input the image URL they get a window asking for the server URL. Once populated they will click browse to find the image, but they get a HTTP 401 Unauthorized error instead. Note, this can happen only after WebDAV has been properly setup.

Cause

WebDAV setting has not been set properly in IIS 7.x

Environment

Windows, IIS 7.x

Diagnosing The Problem

Check that WebDAV is installed in IIS and the authoring rule has been set on the default web site.

Resolving The Problem

In IIS, go to the Default Web Site, in the main console select WebDAV Authoring Rules and open the feature. (Do this by Double clicking the icon) On the right hand side under the Actions menu select WebDAV Settings.

Under Property Behaviour set 'Allow Anonymous Property Queries' to true. Then under the actions menu on the right side click on 'Apply' to commit the change.

Once this has been done you will need to click on the server level in the left side connections pane and then from the Actions menu on the right side click restart, this will restart IIS and commit all changes.
