Import of table definitions metadata fails.

Technote (FAQ)

Question

Why when trying to import metadata using the wizard, user would get the following error:?

"An unexpected exception occurred accessing the repository"
JavaException
Caused by:
com.ascential.xmeta.exception.runtime.AuthenticationException: User
xxxxxxxx is not authorized to perform the operation:
CommonMetadata.commonMetadataImportRoles.

Cause

Because user does not have the "Common Metadata Administrator" role assigned.

You can add this role to the user through the InformationServer web console, 'Administration', 'Users and Groups', Users, select user, 'Open User', Under Roles, tick 'Common Metadata Administrator', Save and Close.

Answer

InfoSphere Information Server tools, such as InfoSphere Information Analyzer, InfoSphere DataStage Designer or InfoSphere FastTrack, InfoSphere Business Glossary require the "Common Metadata Administrator" role by design. See the following link:

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iisinfsv/v8r7/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.swg.im.iis.iisinfsv.assetint.doc%2Ftopics%2Fpdr_cli_import.html

However because of a different issue that has been fixed now in 8.7.0.1, this behaviour was not working correctly and users were able to import metadata without this role. Now that the bug has been fixed in 8.7.0.1, the software is working as expected and users are required to have this role.
